Welcome to Learn Association

We chose the name Learn because it is the shortest word we know for the longest journey a person can take.

Learning is how chains are broken — the chains of poverty that tell a child what they may become before they have had a chance to discover it themselves. It is the curiosity of a three-year-old discovering the world, the determination of a young person working towards a qualification, the courage of an adult returning to education, and the wisdom communities gain when people listen to and learn from one another.

Learning is not only what we know; it is who we become — character, patience, courage, the willingness to sit down with someone from the ‘other’ side and find that they are not ‘other’ at all.

By working across cultures, generations and backgrounds, we create opportunities to learn with one another rather than simply from one another. These connections widen horizons, challenge assumptions and remind us that human hopes are deeply shared: the hope for security, dignity, belonging, opportunity and a better future for those we love.

This is what Ubuntu teaches us: I am because we are. No one grows alone. So the Learn Association is not a name for a service we deliver, but for what we are together — a community of people helping each other to grow, to get better, and to reach further than any of us could reach by ourselves.
